Ports were not designed to be photographed. They were designed for efficiency, for movement, for tonnage. And yet the cranes, the stacked containers, the scale of it against open water — this is some of the most honest architecture a city offers.
We move through working harbor areas at an unhurried pace. We sit and watch. We look at how workers move, how light hits metal and rust, how the water changes texture with the wind.
What happens
- —Begins morning, moves through afternoon into evening
- —Covers industrial port areas, ferry crossings, and coastal neighborhoods
- —Focus on geometry, texture, scale, and human presence
- —Multiple extended stops — we sit and watch, not just pass through
- —Informal food stop or coffee during the day — everyone pays individually
What to bring
- —Camera or phone
- —Comfortable shoes — uneven ground
- —Wind-resistant layer
- —Wide angle lens if available
Getting there
